Why did my generation fail with 'out of credits'?
Audexum shows 'out of credits' (HTTP 402, insufficient_credits) when your balance cannot cover the whole cost of the request. Shorten the text, switch to a cheaper engine, wait for the daily reset on the free plan, or add credits.
Why does it happen?
A request costs its characters times the engine multiplier: 1 for V1, 1.5 for V2, 2 for V3 and 4 for V4. A 1,000 character script costs 4,000 credits on V4, which a free account cannot cover from a 250-credit day.
Transcription costs 200 credits a minute, so a 10-minute file needs 2,000 credits.
How do I fix it?
- Check your balance in the usage tab of your dashboard.
- Switch to a cheaper engine, or split the text. See Which voice engine should I use?
- On the free plan, wait for the next daily 250 credits.
- Buy a credit pack or move to a plan.
What does the API return?
A 402 with error: insufficient_credits, your plan_tier, monthly_grant, monthly_used, pack_credits, the credits requested, and an upgrade link. AI assistants connected through MCP stop calling paid tools and pass you the upgrade link.
